Ghosts on the Prairie

This is the final post from my recent trip to North Dakota. All of these are Polaroids shot at two different locations, with a focus on multiple exposures.

For this trip, I brought my SX-70 and i-2. I love the SX-70—it’s such a cool camera and an SLR. I love it. However, I also appreciate having control over my settings, and the SX-70 is limited in that department, aside from the single exposure compensation dial. When the i-2 was announced, I was excited because it allowed me to hook up my studio lights and have complete control over shutter speed, aperture, and multiple exposures; I immediately ordered one.

The first few shots reminded me how much I appreciate that the SX-70 is an SLR because, of course, the i-2 is not. I quickly gravitated back to the SX-70 and have primarily been using it ever since. Then, Polaroid announced the updated chemistry for 600 black-and-white film, so I ordered a few packs and took them, along with the i-2, on this trip.

After a couple of days on the road, I finally dug the camera out and decided to experiment after getting some shots I liked with my Fujifilm X-T5. I finished off a pack of SX-70 film and then loaded a pack of the new 600.

The first four shots are from the same location, and I really like how they look together, especially since the current 600 film has frames in different shades of grey. One of the shots is on SX-70 film, which has a white frame, and I lucked out that the other three all had different shades of grey for their frames.

These next two shots are from a separate location.

And this one is obviously a single exposure, but I just like how it turned out. Thanks for looking!
