Someone Who Gets It

We all need that person.

Someone Who Gets It
Woman dipping her toes in the water.
Taken about a year after we were married at Brighten Beach near our home.

I hope you have at least one person in your life who is unconditionally supportive of the pursuit of your passions. Someone who doesn’t say, “Why don’t you do it this way instead?” or “How are you going to make any money from that?”

Knowing you have someone who has your back and will support your wacky ideas and encourage you to explore is huge.

I’m lucky; I have several people in my life who are like that. My wife is on the top of that list. This week marks our 10th wedding anniversary and I wanted to share a few photos of her over the years, supporting my passion and collaborating with me.

Happy 10 years, my love.

Woman under water
Playing with a GoPro. I totally lucked out with this shot.
Woman with light around her, blurred
Not long after we moved into our house, we had a power outage. We decided to make a creepy series of long exposures in the dark.
Polaroid of woman
Enter my Polaroid obsession. One of my favorite shots with the Duochrome Green film.
Woman Polaroid Emulsion Layer
When I became obsessed with Polaroid emulsion lifts, I had the idea to photograph the Polaroids in the water as I was waiting for the emulsion layer to lift. The red is food coloring.
Woman mirrored Polaroid Emulsion lift
Again with the emulsion lifts. This was one of the first final images of my Lifted Dreams series.
Woman laying in the grass
I’ve recently been playing with film again. I’ve been taking over the kitchen with developing tanks and chemicals and constantly asking everyone to “not move while I try to focus.” The kid in the background there.
Couple and dog in hammock
This shot was taken shortly after we were married. This is one of our favorite spots on the lake. That’s our pup, Yorba, sitting next to my wife. He’s 11 now. Time flies, but I’m grateful for everything in my life.

Take a minute to thank the supportive people in your life. And if there is someone you know who could use a little support, see what you can do to help them out. Sometimes all it takes is one person giving a little encouragement to make a difference.
